608.15 Protection of potable water outlets.

All potable water openings and outlets shall be protected against backflow in accordance with IPC Sections 608.15.1, 608.15.2, 608.15.3, 608.15.4, 608.15.4.1, 608.15.4.2, or 608.15.4.3, as applicable.

1004.3 Posting of occupant load.

Every room or space that is an assembly occupancy shall have the occupant load of the room or space posted in a conspicuous place, near the main exit or exit access doorway from the room or space. Posted signs shall be of an approved legible permanent design and shall be maintained by the owner or authorized agent.

907.2.1 Group A.

A manual fire alarm system shall be installed in accordance with NFPA 72 in Group A occupancies having an occupant load of 300 or more. Portions of Group E occupancies occupied for assembly purposes shall be provided with a fire alarm system as required for the Group E occupancy. Exception: manual fire alarm boxes are not required where the building is equipped throughout with an automatic sprinkler system and the notification appliances will activate upon sprinkler water flow.

18VAC10-20-760. Use of seal.

A regulant shall apply a stamp, or a preprinted or electronic seal to final and complete original cover sheets of plans, drawings, plats, technical reports and specifications and to each original sheet of plans, drawings or plats, prepared by the regulant or someone under his direct control and personal supervision. All seal imprints on the cover or first sheet of final documents shall bear an original signature and date. "Final Documents" are completed documents or copies submitted on a client's behalf for approval by authorities or recordation. In such cases, the cover sheet of the documents or copies shall contain a list of drawings included in the set on which a seal, original signature and date shall be affixed for all regulated disciplines. Every page of the submission, other than the cover, may be reproduced from originals which contain the seal, original signature and date by each discipline responsible for the work.

112.1 General. For the purpose of establishing USBC compliance, the building official shall examine or shall cause to be examined all applications for permit, construction documents and amendments there within a reasonable time after filing. If the application or the construction documents do not conform to the requirements of all pertinent laws and ordinances, the building official shall reject such application in writing, stating the reasons therefore.

1109.12.3 Point of sale and service counters.  

Where counters are provided for sales or distribution of goods or services, at least one of each type provided shall be accessible. Where such counters are dispersed throughout the building or facility, the accessible counters shall also be dispersed.

602.1 General. 

Buildings and structures erected or to be erected, altered or extended in height or area shall be classified in one of the five construction types defined in Sections 602.2 through 602.5. The building elements shall have a fire resistance rating not less than that specified in Table 601 and exterior walls shall have a fire-resistance rating not less than that specified in Table 602.

506.3 Automatic sprinkler system increase.

Where a building is protected throughout with an approved automatic sprinkler system in accordance with Section 903.3.1.1, the area limitation in Table 503 is permitted to be increased by 200 percent (Is = 200 percent) for multi-story buildings and 300 percent (Is = 300 percent) for single-story buildings.  These increases are permitted in addition to the height and story increases in accordance with Section 504.2.  Please note that Section 903.3.1.1 references NFPA 13, not 13R or 13D, systems.

1603.3 Live loads posted.

Where the live loads for which each floor or portion thereof of a commercial or industrial building is or has been designed to exceed 50 pounds per square foot (2.40 kN/m2), such design live loads shall be conspicuously posted by the owner in that part of each story in which they apply, using durable signs. It shall be unlawful to remove or deface such notices.

1603.1.1 Floor live load.

The uniformly distributed, concentrated and impact floor live load used in the design shall be indicated for floor areas. Live load reduction of the uniformly distributed floor live loads, if used in the design, shall be indicated.

903.4.2 Alarms.

Approved audible devices shall be connected to every automatic sprinkler system. Such sprinkler water-flow alarm devices shall be activated by water flow equivalent to the flow of a single sprinkler of the smallest orifice size installed in the system. Alarm devices shall be provided on the exterior of the building in an approved location. Where a fire alarm system is installed, actuation of the automatic sprinkler system shall actuate the building fire alarm system.

903.2.13 Other required suppression systems.

In addition to the requirements of Section 903.2, the provisions indicated in Table 903.2.15 also require the installation of a suppression system for certain buildings and areas.

412.2.6 Fire suppression.

Aircraft hangars shall be provided with fire suppression as required in NFPA 409.

Exception:

Group II hangars as defined in NFPA 409 storing private aircraft without major maintenance or overhaul are exempt from foam suppression requirements.

111.1 When required

In accordance with Section 54.1-410 of the Code of Virginia and under the general authority of this code, the local building department shall establish a procedure to ensure that construction documents under Section 109 are prepared by a registered design professional (RDP) in any case in which the exemptions contained in Sections 54.1-401, 54.1-402 or Section 54.1-402.1 of the Code of Virginia are not applicable or in any case where the building official determines it necessary.  When required under Section 54.1-402 of the Code of Virginia or when required by the building official, or both, construction documents shall bear the name and address of the author and his occupation.  (USBC Section 111.1)

108.3 Applicant information, processing by mail.  

Application for permit shall be made by the owner or lessee of the relevant property or the agent of either or by the RDP, contractor or subcontractor associated with the work or any of their agents.  The full name and address of the owner, lessee and applicant shall be provided in the application.  If the owner or lessee is a corporate body, when and to the extent determined necessary by the building official, the full name and addresses of the responsible officers shall also be provided.  A permit application may be submitted by mail and such permit applications shall be processed by mail, unless the permit applicant voluntary chooses otherwise.  In no case shall the applicant be required to appear in person.

109.3 Engineering details. 

When determined necessary by the building official, construction documents shall include adequate detail of the structural, mechanical, plumbing or electrical components.  Adequate detail may include computations, stress diagrams or other essential technical data and when the proposed buildings are more than two stories in height, adequate detail may specifically be required to include where floor penetrations will be made for pipes, wires, conduits, and other components of the electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems and how such floor penetrations will be protected to maintain the required structural integrity or fire-resistance rating, or both.  All engineered documents, including relevant computations, shall be sealed by the registered design professional responsible for the design.

103.2 When applicable to new construction.

Construction for which a permit application is submitted to the local building department after November 16, 2005 , shall comply with the provisions of this code, except for permit applications submitted during a one-year period after November 16, 2005 .  The applicant for a permit during such one-year period shall be permitted to choose whether to comply with the provisions of this code or the provisions of the code in effect immediately prior to November 16, 2005 .  This provision shall also apply to subsequent amendments to this code based on the effective date of such amendments.  In addition, when a permit has been properly issued under a previous edition of this code, this code shall not require changes to the approved construction documents, design or construction of such a building or structure, provided the permit has not been suspended or revoked.  (USBC Section 103.2)
