Public Records

Information often referred to as Public Records resides at several locations in the James City County / City of Williamsburg area.

Records Management is the central records division for County land development files. Once files are closed they are sent to Records Management at 101 Mounts Bay Road, Building E. For more information, please call 253-6725 or 253-6730.

If information is needed, on proposed or ongoing cases please call the Building Safety and Permits Division at 253- 6626 or the Planning Division at 253-6685.

Information on existing structures, i.e., zoning files, site plans, building permits, accessory permits, wetland files, sign permits, rezoning files, master plans, and subdivisions files are available in Records Management.

Recorded plats to properties are kept at the Clerk of the Circuit Court's office at the Williamsburg/James City Courthouse, (757) 564-2242. The Courthouse is located on Monticello Avenue in Williamsburg.
