Septic Tank Pumpout Information

Chapter 23-9 of the James City County Code, Chesapeake Bay Preservation, states that all septic systems shall be pumped out at least once every five years. This is considered essential to protect the quality of state waters. However, documentation certified by a sewage handler permitted by the Virginia Department of Health, that a septic system has been inspected, is functioning properly, and the tank does not need to have the effluent pumped out of it will also be accepted.

When your septic system is pumped out or inspected, please provide us with written documentation so that we may update our files.
