Dive Team
With three major waterways running along James City County (JCC) , the Fire Department is fully prepared for river and wetland responses. Along with water rescue and recovery, the addition of a new Boston Whaler Fire Boat will enable the Dive Team to augment ground crews in certain fire operations.
The JCC Fire Department Dive Team has a total of ten members, all of whom are certified advanced open ocean divers. Over half of the team are also ALS certified, making the Dive Team a diverse rescue resource.
The Dive Team's talent is evident with each response they handle. Their hard work and training is a vital part of the Fire Department as a whole. This was apparent during a 1997 rescue involving a commercial diver who was trapped under water for over four hours.
