Dive Team
With three major waterways running along James City County, the Fire Department is fully prepared for river and wetland responses. Along with water rescue and recovery, the addition of a new Boston Whaler Fire Boat will enable the Dive Team to augment ground crews in certain fire operations.
The James City County Fire Department Dive Team has a total of ten members, all of whom are certified advanced open ocean divers. Over half of the team are also ALS certified, making the Dive Team a diverse rescue resource.
The Dive Team's talent is evident with each response they handle. Their hard work and training is a vital part of the Fire Department as a whole. This was apparent during a 1997 rescue involving a commercial diver who was trapped under water for over four hours.
