Citizen Fire Academy
The Citizens' Fire Academy meets in the Fall, once a week for 10 weeks, with two Saturday half-day practical sessions. The program is designed to introduce the citizen to the Fire Department, its mission and role in public safety, and to train the citizens on their role and responsibilities in fire and life safety.
Participants will receive information on disaster programs and response, fire extinguisher training, CPR, and how to access the Enhanced 911 system in the most efficient manner. They will also participate in Fire Department operations such as rescuing someone from a vehicle, serving on a fire support team, and other similar activities. Participation in a ride-along program is also encouraged, but citizens participate only to the level in which they are comfortable. A maximum of 15 participants is allowed each session.
