Fitness Action Team

The Fitness Committee was formed in May of 1998 and charged by the Fire Chief with developing a fitness program for the Fire Department.

While this program is in the early stages of development, the Committee has built a good foundation for promoting and maintaining physical fitness in the work place. Some key concepts the Committee is looking toward include:

  • Provide a variety of educational opportunities on wellness related topics as determined by the needs and requests of Fire Department employees.
  • Trained and certified providers to administer fitness evaluations.
  • Personalized fitness improvement programs.

Progress to Date

The Fitness Action Team researched other wellness programs around the Country and conducted a wellness survey of Fire Department employees. Incorporating all this information, the team wrote and submitted a "Wellness and Fitness Program" for Chief Luton's approval.

The team partnered with the JCC Recreation Department to purchase a fitness assessment and development program. Committee members are currently going through the fitness evaluation process to learn first-hand how the process works and what resulting information is provided.

As soon as the program is approved, employees will receive more information and training.
