Support Staff
The Administrative Support Staff has a vital role within the Fire Department. With duties ranging from the management of Fire Administration Offices to departmental purchasing, the support staff is constantly "running in the background" keeping the Fire Department running smoothly.
Chief's Office
The Office Manager for the Fire Department is Susan Malechek. Susan is often the point of contact for citizens requesting routine assistance from the department. She is responsible for incoming contacts for the Fire Chief and Deputy Chief along with Inter-County and Inter-Department communication. Susan is also responsible for assisting with requests for Fire and EMS incident reports, managing the text messaging system for all department personnel, and records management.
Bernadette Williams is responsible for financial transaction record keeping for the Department. Along with those duties Bernadette is the primary logistical technician making sure that firefighters are outfitted with appropriate personal protective equipment and uniforms.
The Emergency Services Division office is staffed by Jane Leonard and Wilton Bobo. Jane is responsible for day to day administrative matters in emergency services; she also manages the EOC building functions, and serves as lead support staff to the emergency management team in the EOC during disasters.
Wilton Bobo is the Deputy Emergency Services Coordinator. In this role, he is responsible for the development of emergency plans, coordinates resource allocation, and serves as liaison between the County and State and Federal agencies. Wilton also serves as an emergency responder to the EOC during disasters and coordinates emergency management activities.
The Map Book Update Project
Over the past few years the County has undergone a great deal of growth in the community. With this growth, of course, come new road networks to respond over. James City County has long known the value of citizen volunteers, and the Map Project is a fine example of one of those citizens.
Paul Marriott has been devoting his time in keeping track of new road construction and updating the apparatus map books to reflect these changes. Using an auto CAD program, Paul is able to draw, label, and publish updated map pages on a continuing basis.
