  James City County Clean County Commission members Peggy Boarman and Charles Loundermon talk at the 2009 Earth Day Environmental Fair and Trade Show.  The 17th annual event was held April 22 and hosted by the Counties of James City and York, the City of Williamsburg, Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, VPPSA, Busch Gardens, Kingsmill Resort and Spa, and Anheuser-Busch, Inc.

James City County Recognizes Two Companies


James City County’s Board of Supervisors, Economic Development Authority and Office of Economic Development recognized Anheuser-Busch, Inc. and Coresix Precision Glass at its 14th annual Celebration of Business. Coresix was this year’s recipient of the Captain John Smith Award, which is given annually by the County’s economic development team to a business, organization or individual for exemplary contributions in the James City County business community.  This year, a special award also was bestowed to Anheuser-Busch (more).

John Smith Award winner, with John McGlennon, James City County Board of Supervisors Chairman Robin Carson, Kingsmill Executive Vice President and Managing Director, holding the hand-blown glass mug presented to Anheuser-Busch Companies, and Sandy Wanner, County Administrator Mark Rinaldi, James City County Economic Development Authority Chairman, Alan Graham, founder and President of Coresix Precision Glass, winner of the Capt. John Smith Award, and John McGlennon, James City County Board of Supervisors Chairman.

 

“Heavyweight” Award

 

James City County Fire Educator Margaret Tucker (left) was recently presented a “Heavyweight” award by the Virginia Citizen Corps. She was honored for furthering business disaster preparedness and for helping to bring Teen CERT to Virginia.  The award was presented by Brock Bierman, Director of the Community Preparedness Division, Federal Emergency Management Agency, and Sharon Woo, Citizens Corps & CERT training and outreach coordinator, Virginia Department of Emergency Management.

 
Turkey Day

It was freedom day – just 9 days before Thanksgiving -- for 14 wild turkeys at Freedom Park off Centerville Road. Fourth-graders from Norge and D.J. Montague Elementary Schools learned all about the habits of these grand gamebirds before they flew off to their roosting places in the treetops. The release was sponsored by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and the National Wild Turkey Federation.

Norge Depot Ground Breaking

Norge Depot
County Administrator Sandy Wanner (left to right) presents a framed photo of Norge Train Depot to Frances Hamilton as Supervisors Andy Bradshaw and Bruce Goodson look on at a groundbreaking ceremony held recently. Frances Hamilton, along with many others, are credited with working to restore the early 1900s depot.
