Part-time Benefits

 

In addition to benefits required by law, such as Social Security and Workers' Compensation, James City County employees in part-time permanent, limited term, and other designated positions are eligible for certain County benefits. Here are highlights:

 

Deferred Compensation - Employees may participate in a plan to defer a portion of their salary for retirement purposes through ICMA Retirement Corporation.  Employees receive a County match of 50 percent of the employee contribution up to a County contribution of $10 a pay period for full-time employees and $5 a pay period for part-time employees.

Flexible Spending Accounts - Employees may participate in this program which allows them to be reimburse fro health care and dependent care expenses with money set aside before taxes.

Holidays - The County observes eleven paid holidays per year. Part-time employees are paid for these holidays according to the number of hours they work per year.

Vacation Leave - Part-time employees earn vacation leave according to the number of hours they work per year. After five years of County service, the rate increases by 50 percent. After fifteen years of service, the rate increases by an additional 33-1/3 percent.

Credit Union - Employees are eligible to join Langley Federal Credit Union.

Sick Leave - Part-time employees earn sick leave according to the number of hours they work per year. Up to three days of sick leave may be used to care for an immediate family member who is ill and requires the employee's attendance.

Sick Leave Bank - Employees may participate in the Sick Leave Bank, a "pool" of accrued sick leave days for use by member employees who are unable to work because of an extended personal illness or disability. Employees contribute a day of sick leave to the "pool". Employees then are eligible to receive their full pay for up to six weeks if they have been sick or disabled for six weeks or more and have exhausted their own leave.

Funeral Leave - Employees may use Personal Leave for up to three (3) days per death or life-threatening illness of an immediate family member.

School Leave - Part-time employees earn school leave according to the number of hours they work per year. This leave can be used to meet with their child's teacher, to attend a school function in which their child participates, or to volunteer at school.

Employee Assistance Program - Employees and their families are eligible for free confidential counseling for a variety of needs such as: stress management, balancing work and family, parenting and improving relationships.

Tuition Assistance - Employees are eligible for payment of tuition costs for up to three job-related courses each year.

Community Centers - Employees and the employees' immediate family are eligible for discounted rates to James City/Williamsburg and James River Community Centers regardless of residency. Membership fees may be paid by payroll deduction.

Working Towards Wellness Program - The Working Towards Wellness program is designed to provide County employees with the information and resources needed to achieve and maintain a healthy and fit lifestyle. In order to assist employees with achieving fitness goals, employees may receive a health risk appraisal, fitness assessment, and personal profile (customized fitness improvement plan) at the James City/Williamsburg Community Center at no cost to them. If employees completing the appraisal and assessment wish to use the Community Center to attain their fitness goals, an access pass is provided, also at no cost to them.
