Cooperative Extension
- 4-H Club Leader - Organize, manage, and/or lead hands-on educational activities for youth once or twice a month. Training, curriculum, and start-up supplies are provided. Leaders are needed for existing clubs and to start new clubs.
- School 4-H Club Science Leader - Teach hands-on lessons supporting science SOLs to 4th graders at one school, once a month. Good basic knowledge of science required. Training, lesson plans, and materials are provided.
- Master Gardener Volunteers - Virginia Cooperative Extension trains Master Gardener volunteers in environmentally sound horticultural techniques to disseminate to the community. Community programs reach a wide audience from youth, senior citizens, homeowners, and the mentally and physically impaired. Training takes place from January - March twice a week. A small fee is charged for this training which includes a manual filled with the latest research from Virginia Tech. Call 564-2170 for more information.
Environmental
- Water Quality Monitor Are you a concerned citizen who wants to adopt and monitor a stream for a year or more? Each season, you will take a sample, record the results and submit the data. For more information, contact Fran Geissler at (757) 259-1440.
Parks and Recreation
- Beyond the Bell Tutor
Assist students’ grades 6 though 8 with daily homework and projects at James City County/Williamsburg and James River Community Centers as homework tutor.
Monday- Friday (3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.) - Recreation Leader (Middle School)
Individuals with customer service skills and the ability to work in a team environment are needed for middle after-school programs. Responsibilities include interacting positively with program participants, leading and participating in daily activities to include homework, gym, arts and crafts and outdoor play times, and assisting staff with various activities as needed. Monday – Friday (3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.) at James Blair and Toano Middle Schools and James City/Williamsburg and James River Community Centers. - Recreation Leader (Elementary)
Individuals with customer service skills and the ability to work in a team environment are needed for elementary after-school programs. Responsibilities include interacting positively with program participants, leading and participating in daily activities to include homework, gym, arts and crafts and outdoor play times, and assisting staff with various activities as needed. Monday- Friday (3:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.) at Matthew Whaley, Clara Byrd Baker, D.J. Montague, James River, Rawls-Byrd, Stonehouse, Matoaka and Norge Elementary Schools. - SAM – Success and Achievement through Mentors
Provide mentoring services to elementary ages 5 – 11, and youth ages 11-high school graduation that need guidance and support and a positive adult role model who can provide exposure to new experiences and opportunities. - Special Event Volunteer
Assist in implementing planned community-wide special events for families, such as Haunter Forrest, Family Fun Fest, Easter Egg Hunt, Santa Calling, Breakfast with Santa, Splash-in movies and teen events. - Teen Activities Assistant
Individuals with customer service skills and the ability to work in a team environment are needed to assist Parks & Recreation staff with setting up activities and equipment and monitoring youth during teen events at the JCC/Williamsburg Community Center, James River Community Center, and various locations within James City County and Williamsburg. Activities are usually on Friday evenings from 8:30 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. Days and hours may vary depending on event. - Teens Toward Success – Ages 12-17
Volunteer at one of the James City County/Williamsburg Community Centers, James City County Parks & Recreation or at the Before and After School Programs. Daily schedule will be arranged to fit your schedule. Learn how to be a future leader and gain job skills. If you are interested, write a letter describing why you want to work, where you want to work, how you can help make the program a better one and any training and/or experience you have. - Therapeutic Recreation Aide
Individuals are needed to assist in helping participants with disabilities ages 3 and up enjoy a meaningful experience and be included in recreation programs, facilities, parks, and special events. Placement would be at Before/After School sites, (Monday- Friday 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.) and any program or classes (Monday- Sunday, hours may vary (6:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.) offered by JCC Parks & Recreation. - Tutors – STRIVE Program
Help at-risk elementary school aged youth (grades K-5 and 5-11 years of age) and middle school aged youth (grades 6, 7, 8 and 11-14 years of age) with science, social sciences, mathematics, language arts, world languages (French, German, Latin & Spanish), etc. - Water Safety Aide
Assist Water Safety Instructors in implementing planned programs for swimming and water safety classes at the indoor pool at the JCC/Williamsburg Community Center. - Water Safety Instructor
Teach a variety of swimming and water safety classes at the indoor pool at the JCC/Williamsburg Community Center. American Red Cross WSI certification preferred. - Youth Soccer Coach
Head coaches and Assistant Coaches are needed for all age ranges K-9th grade for youth soccer. Coaches conduct one week night practice with their team and Saturday morning games during soccer season. Seasons run eight weeks.
Olde Towne Medical Center
- Physicians, nurses, dentists and dental assistants are needed to serve in primary care medical clinic for Un- and under-insured local residents.
Social Services
- Eligibility Worker - Assist Eligibility Worker with completing reviews, following-up on correspondence, answering phones and filing. Flexible schedule.
- Social Work Assistant - Learn about Social Services by assisting in the Child Care program interviewing customers, data entry, completing purchase orders and filing.
General registrar
- Officers of Election This is a paid volunteer position. If you are a registered voter in the Commonwealth of Virginia and interested in the political process this may be the volunteer opportunity for you. Officers of Election work at polling locations on Election Day from 5:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. (or until the results have been reported). Paid training is provided. If you are not initially assigned, you may opt to train and be on the Emergence Response Team – available in case of no-shows on Election Day
