Gravity Sewer Cleaning and Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) Inspections
In an ongoing effort to inspect and evaluate the underground wastewater collection system, the JCSA initiated cleaning and CCTV inspections in selected areas. The internal pipeline inspections can reveal imminent pipe failures, sources of groundwater and storm water inflow and infiltration, and obstructions in the pipelines. Obviously, it is better to discover these deficiencies before catastrophic failure or a sewer system overflow occurs. Three areas were targeted for inspection:
- The First Colony Interceptor from JCSA’s Lift Station 1-2 near Route 5 and Greensprings Plantation Drive to Route 5 and John Rolfe Lane approximately 7,500 linear feet.
- The Lift Station 2-4 Interceptor from JCSA’s Lift Station 2-4 near Pocahontas Trail and Jan Rae Circle to Railroad Street approximately 7,600 linear feet.
- The James Terrace area between Penniman Road and the railroad tracks west of Merrimac Trail approximately 28,000 linear feet.
Cost
- Cleaning, CCTV inspection, easement clearing and reports for all three project areas approximately $174,000.
