Budget Adopted – The Board of Supervisors approved the
FY 2011-2012 Budget at their May 11 meeting. Retiring County Administrator Sandy Wanner reflected in his final Budget Message, “I want to thank our citizens, business community, partners and employees for their input into this process, and the Board for the opportunity to present you with my final budget as County Administrator.” He continued, “I hope that, in future years, we will be in a better financial position to continue those investments that make the County such a quality community.” The approved budget will be available on the County’s website as soon as it is finalized.

County Receives Financial Honors – The County’s Department of Financial and Management Services has been recognized for its financial reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for the 25th year in a row. In addition, the County’s General Obligation Bond Rating has been changed by Moody’s Investors Service and Fitch Ratings through a recalibration of public finance credit ratings. The result is the County’s first AAA rating, the highest rating a bond can get.

Mill Creek Watershed Stakeholder Meeting – If you live or work in the Mill Creek Watershed, attend the upcoming stakeholder meeting to learn about your watershed, voice your concerns and discuss issues affecting Mill Creek. The meeting will be held May 20 at 7 p.m. at St Martin’s Episcopal Church, 1333 Jamestown Road.  Results from the recent water quality study will be presented. Hurricane Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday, May 25-31 – James City County Emergency Management encourages residents to take advantage of Virginia’s Hurricane Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday.  During the week, residents can stock up on supplies for protecting homes and businesses during hurricane season. Many everyday items costing less than $60 are included such as batteries, cell phone chargers, duct tape and more. Larger items, including portable generators costing less than $1,000, are also included. For a complete list of eligible items, click here. 

EMS Week, May 16-22 – The JCC Board of Supervisors, together with the President and Governor, have issued proclamations recognizing EMS Week and the efforts of our local emergency medical responders. For over 33 years, the men and women of the JCC Fire Department and EMS Division have strived to provide citizens and visitors with the highest level of pre-hospital emergency medical care when needed. They truly live up to this year’s EMS Week motto of “EMS: Anytime. Anywhere. We’ll be There.”(view video in larger format)

 

2009 Comprehensive Plan Process and Leaders Recognized – James City County recently received the 2010 Public Outreach and Engagement Award for the communications and public input process for Historic Past, Sustainable Future: The 2009 Comprehensive Plan. Planning Commissioners
Richard Krapf and Jack Fraley were also recognized for their efforts during the 26-month process. For more information, visit the County’s website.
