County Bike Trail Wins Award
EVMA members donated more than 950 volunteers on the 3.22 mile Loop C at Freedom Park.

James City County’s Freedom Park Loop C Mountain Bike Trail system received top honors from the Virginia Recreation and Park Society in September. The Trail won the 2008 Best New Greenway, Blueway or Trail category for populations between 50,000-100,000.

Housed in the County’s historic Freedom Park, the Loop C Mountain Bike Trail system was designed for bikers of all abilities. However, the trail system boasts 20 technical trail features to challenge even the most experienced riders.

Local members of the Eastern Virginia Mountain Bike Association (EVMA) constructed the 3.22-mile Loop C, donating more than 950 volunteer hours for the layout, design and construction of the project. Parks and Recreation and EVMA worked together and completed Loop C in less than six months from start to finish. Loop C was constructed at no cost to County citizens.

More than 84 submissions were received vying for awards in 17 different categories. Winners were judged by a jury of their peers for demonstrated excellence in their entry areas.
