The James City County Police Department is offering a firearm safety class to the public free of charge. The one-session class will cover basic safety, handling, and storage.

Interested adults can attend November 28 and youth ages 11-17 can attend December 5 or December 12.

The class meets at the Law Enforcement Center at 5087 John Tyler Highway from 10 a.m. - 12 noon. The class does not include hands-on training and personal firearms should be left at home in a secure location.

Pre-registration is required and class size is limited. Call the Police Department at 253-1800 to register.

Grant funding received from the National Rifle Association Foundation and Project ChildSafe was used to purchase class materials and gunlocks. Free gunlocks are available at the class or by calling
Sergeant Steve Humphries at 253-2481.
