Plan nowWhat’s your plan? – September is National Preparedness Month. It’s time to prepare your family, your neighborhood and your community for emergencies and disasters. Emergency preparedness is everyone’s responsibility.

Visit the County’s website to review what you can do before, during and after a hurricane. You will also find a list of useful telephone numbers and websites where you can go for more information.






Third forum added – The County has scheduled a third Planning Commission Forum on September 27 to gather input on the Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances update. The forum begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Building F Board Room of the County Government Center, 101 Mounts Bay Road.

Speakers’ slots are assigned on a first-come first served basis. Sign-up forms can be found online and are due by September 16. For more information, visit the website or call 253-6685.





Got Drugs?What do you do with unused medication? – The County Police Department is partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for the first-ever Nationwide Prescription Drug Take-back Day on September 25 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the James City/Williamsburg Community Center, 5301 Longhill Road.

Disposing of unused and unwanted medications helps eliminate the opportunity for prescription drug abuse. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. For more information, visit the DEA’s website.

Water use regulations continue through September 30 – The annual outdoor water use regulations for James City
Service Authority (JCSA) customers remain in effect through September 30.

Under the Ordinance, customers may use water outdoors for any purpose, at any time, on any day, as long as it is with a container or a hose with an automatic shutoff nozzle. Any other method of outdoor water use must follow the Outdoor Water Use Schedule. For more information, visit the website or call 259-4152 or

Firearm safetySign up for firearm safety classes – The Police Department is offering a free firearm safety class September 11, September 18 and October 11 from 10 a.m. - 12 noon at the Law Enforcement Center on John Tyler Highway. Pre-registration is required and class size is limited. Call 253-1800 to register.










Get out on the water! – The Great Park Pursuit continues with stops at Brickyard Landing and Diascund Reservoir Park.
