James City County Police Department’s Shirley Anderson is the recipient of the 2003 Animal Control Officer of the Year Award given by the Virginia Animal Control Association. Officer Anderson was recognized for her hard work and dedication to her profession. James City County Police Chief David Daigneault says, “Shirley takes great pride in her work, the Animal Control Unit, and the animals themselves.” Since becoming Animal Control Supervisor, Officer Anderson has: developed a schedule that benefits the community and the County by increasing the hours and service; improved the image of the Animal Control division by changing the uniforms and decals on the vehicles; and developed a brochure for citizens. Officer Anderson has worked for the County Police Department since August 1990.
