Annual James City County Fair has been cancelled Friday, August 13 and Saturday, August 14, at Upper County Park Toano.
"Due to the inclement weather that has been predicted for our area, we felt it was in the best interest, from a safety perspective for participants as well as attendees, to cancel the County Fair," said Loretta Garrett, Chair of the James City County Fair Committee.
The County Fair has been closed early in the past due to rain but this is the first time in its history that it has been cancelled, Mrs. Garrett said. The raffle for a 1981 Corvette will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, August 14, at Upper County Park. There is no need to be present to win. There are no plans to reschedule the fireworks or other events.
The remnants of Tropical Storm Bonnie are expected to move through this area starting early tomorrow morning. Hurricane Charley is expected to follow quickly behind, immediately east of the County, with possible heavy rain and winds potentially in the 20- to 25-mph range. County residents are advised to stay tuned to local news media and jccEgov.com for the latest weather information as conditions may change over the next few days.
