Route 5 Bridge to reopen tomorrow

The Virginia Department of Transportation says it will open the state Route 5 Barrett's Ferry Bridge to all vehicular traffic tomorrow afternoon.
The bridge over the Chickahominy River connects Charles City and James City counties. Its closure on June 24 created a 63-mile detour for motorists.
The transportation department issued a $700,000 emergency contract to repair a sagging pier that created more than a 10-inch vertical gap between the moveable and fixed portions of the bridge.
The swing-span truss bridge was built in 1939.
