The Virginia Department of Emergency Management's (VDEM) winter campaign "Preparedness: The Cure for the Commonwealth Cold" takes a look at the history of winter storms in Virginia and how to prepare for future storms.
VDEM offers information on how to get ready for power outages, the use of alternative heat sources, winter driving and how to winterize your home at www.vaemergency.com. The site also provides links to the National Weather Service and other weather-related Web sites as well as important emergency and disaster preparedness information for other natural and technological hazards that can threaten the Commonwealth. In addition, the site provides a link to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) for information on road conditions or by calling VDOT's highway helpline, 1-800-367-ROAD.
