JAMES CITY COUNTY, VA -- James City County Fire Department responded to a structure fire on December 6, 2005 at the 105 Selby Lane. Fire units arrived at 11:52 pm and found a converted attached garage on fire. The room was converted into a den with fireplace. York County, Williamsburg and James City-Bruton Volunteer Fire Department assisted. The fire was knocked down in the room of origin shortly after arrival; units remained on the scene until 1:26 am. Fire damage was limited to the room of origin with smoke damage to the remainder of the home. James City County Fire Marshals investigated the fire. The fire cause is accidental due to embers from the woodstove insert falling onto the combustible floor. There were no working smoke detectors in the home. James City County Fire Department will provide smoke detectors to County residents unable to purchase or install them.
