Jamestown Scotland Ferry Service Disrupted - Pocahontas temporarily removed from service

Suffolk - The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) temporarily suspended service of the Jamestown Scotland Ferry today at 4:45 after a mechanical malfunction caused one of the boats to collide with the dock on the Jamestown side of the river. Service resumed with one boat running at approximately 5:30 this evening.
An engine malfunction aboard the Pocahontas is believed to have prevented the vessel from coming to a complete stop as it entered the docking slip. The vessel has been temporarily removed from service. VDOT crews and the U.S. Coast Guard are currently investigating the incident.
The ferry Surry is currently carrying traffic across the James River. An additional vessel will be placed in service later this evening. Motorists should expect delays until the Pocahontas can be fully inspected, repaired, and returned to service.
