James City County will be offering residents an opportunity to take CERT training starting Feb. 7. The three-week CERT (Citizens Emergency Response Team) class helps residents learn how to take care of themselves, their family, neighbors and friends in the event of an emergency.
Training topics include disaster preparedness, fire safety, medical operations, search and rescue, disaster psychology and terrorism. The final class will include a hands-on opportunity to put training into use during a mock disaster.
Classes will be held at the Fire Training Center, 300 McLaws Circle. For more details and an application, contact Fire Public Safety Educator Margaret Tucker at 253-0574.
