James City County issues ban on open burning

James City County's Fire Marshal has placed a ban in effect until further notice on all outdoor open burning by residents and businesses due to the extremely dry conditions, low humidity and windy conditions.
Citizens are requested to completely extinguish smoking materials before discarding and keep brush and other debris cleared away from houses and other buildings. Any sign of fire, including brush or wood fires, should be reported immediately by calling 911. Grasses and brush are particularly vulnerable to rapid fire spread.
