The Virginia Cooperative Extension recently received a PRIDE Mini-Grant for resource materials to conduct a wetlands habitat workshop in partnership with the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, Virginia State Biologists and Environmental Educators. The purpose of the workshop was to provide advanced education to local Water Stewards and Master Gardeners about wetland habitat preservation, landscaping and reconstruction.
Other recent PRIDE Mini-Grant recipients include Season’s Trace, Longhill Gate and The Mews for enhancing their neighborhood stormwater management facilities (BMPs) with wetland vegetation. PRIDE offers four Mini-Grants yearly of up to $500 each. Mini-Grants are available to James City County neighborhoods, stormwater facility (BMP) owners, and community groups seeking to improve water quality through watershed restoration and/or protection projects such as tree planting, wetland planting, BMP restoration, stream bank stabilization and education.
PRIDE stands for “Protecting Resources in Delicate Environments.” PRIDE is the educational component of the County's water quality program. The goal of PRIDE is to improve water quality in James City County by teaching residents about the importance of watershed protection.
