Volvo Rents Construction Equipment Expands into James City County

Volvo Rents Construction Equipment
Volvo Rents Construction Equipment, the James City County Board of Supervisors, and its Economic Development Authority are pleased to announce the addition of Volvo Rents to James City County in the James River Commerce Center. The company has invested $1.3 million in acquiring and building its 8,400 sq ft showroom and repair shop. Volvo will initially add 5 jobs; the showroom opened in June 2007.
Volvo Rents (and its predecessor Allied Rental Centers) has been in business continuously since 1970, serving Southside Hampton Roads. The James City County facility will complement current nearby locations in Virginia Beach and Central Virginia. Volvo Rents offers aerial, earthmoving, materials handling, construction, and lawn & garden equipment, as well as dozens of items for home, work and industry. The company guarantees on-time delivery to its customers.
“The timing was right to expand to James City County,” said Ned Dickinson, Vice President of Volvo Rents. “Our service area has been increasingly growing to the west of our Virginia Beach location; and the business climate and opportunities are here, in James City County.”
Bruce Goodson, Supervisor for the Roberts District, in which the new facilities will be located, echoed that James City County has a climate conducive to business. “The James River Enterprise Zone was designated to revitalize the Roberts District, and judging by the number of business locating to this area in James City County, it is working. Our citizens employment opportunities are increasing and the businesses here are thriving.”
Mark Rinaldi, Economic Development Authority Chair, conveyed the “open-for-business” attitude in James City County. “In the increasingly competitive arena of economic development, we are delighted that Volvo Rents chose a location in our County as opposed to the many other alternatives found in neighboring communities. I feel that it is a reflection upon our mantra of our business climate, providing opportunities to employers,” Rinaldi said.
County Administrator Sandy Wanner added his congratulations. “The infrastructure and visibility of James City County is putting us in a premier position for economic development. Success breeds success, and we hope to continue the success of businesses expanding into the area and the County.
