The James City Clean County Commission is pleased to report the results of the 28th Annual Spring Cleanup. During three consecutive weekends in April, 295 volunteers collected 128,900 pounds of litter and debris from County roadways and dump sites. Families, neighborhoods and organizations donated 1,741 hours to aid the Clean County Commission in accomplishing the goals of keeping James City County beautiful and improving the community’s quality of life.
According to the Department of Environmental Quality, 18 percent of all littered items end up in our waterways as pollution and it takes 12 years for a cigarette butt to decompose. Litter also has a negative impact on real estate values.
The Commission invites the community to participate in the 29th Annual Spring Cleanup to be held in April 2010. For more information, go to the jccEgov.com/recycling or contact the County Recycling Office at 757-259-9850 or genserv@jamescitycountyva.gov.
