Boating Violations

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

 

REPORTING BOATING VIOLATIONS TO:

 

Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF):

 

Violations in progress can be called in to DGIF at 1-800-237-5712.   This number is in operation 24 hours a day,  7 days a week.  The caller will hear a recording.   The FIRST THING that he or she should say is that there is a VIOLATION IN PROGRESS.  Someone will then pick up the line.   Then provide the following information to the responding DGIF Officer:

  • The VA number on the boat or, if there is no VA number, the name of the boat;
  • The date, time, and location of the incident;
  • Details of the driver of the boat;
  • Thorough details of the incident – video or picture evidence is always helpful;
  • A list of the names and contact information for all witnesses to the incident.

Past violations can be called in to (804) 829-6580  (New Kent County DGIF office) or to (804) 367-1258 (DGIF Dispatch).

 

James City County (JCC):      

 

Violations in progress can be called in to JCC Central Dispatch at (757) 566-0112.

 

For boating accidents or emergencies – call 911. 

 

Provide the following information:  

  • Location of the offense and direction of travel;
  • Description of the vessel to include make, model, color, boat name, registration number;
  • Name of and /or description of the operator of the boat.
