Williamsburg Vies to Become the First Permanent Google Settlement in America

The City of Williamsburg, James City County and York County are making a joint application to be a test community for Google’s new ultra
high-speed broadband internet service. Google’s networks will deliver Internet speeds more than 100 times faster than what most Americans have access to today – over 1 gigabit per second, fiber-to-the-home connections.

Williamsburg led the American Revolution in the 18th century and is the perfect community to lead the Information Revolution in the 21st. This kind of connectivity would transform the way information is broadcast, and Williamsburg offers outstanding educational, cultural and high-tech infrastructure in addition to a citizenry who have expressed through citizen surveys their interest in expanding the use and availability of broadband.
