Beginning today, March 15, James City County will expand its social media presence to Twitter. The County will use the microblogging site to provide timely, quick and concise information to users. The County's use of social media, including accounts on Facebook and YouTube, moves local government beyond traditional one-way communication to the public. Followers are encouraged to comment on information posted which will in turn provide valuable feedback to staff.

Since tweets are limited to 140 characters, many will include links to the County’s website where users can go for additional information. Users can also link their cell phones to their Twitter accounts so County tweets can be received as text messages when away from home, a feature that is especially useful during emergency situations.
