Dam at Warhill District Park to be removed
Work crews have begun draining the pond in preparation for the removal of dam on Warhill Trail at Warhill District Park.
In October 2011, the James City County Board of Supervisors approved the removal of the dam as a less expensive alternative when compared to improving the dam to meet State standards.
The project involves the installation of four 36-inch culverts under the road so that the road fill will act as a road crossing rather than a dam impoundment. The area currently underwater will revert to a forested wetland system similar to the downstream side of the road crossing.
The road will remain open during construction. However, drivers will need to exercise caution when entering the park as occasional lane closures will be necessary. The project is expected to be completed in the spring.
