Bike Patrol Unit

The purpose of the Police Bicycle Patrol program is to enhance community relationships and to provide "directed patrols" in areas where bike patrols may have an impact.  The Bike Patrol Officers also provide educational programs to the citizens of James City County such as Bike Rodeos, Home, and Bike Safety.

The Bike Patrol is used  for Community Policing activities through interaction with the community through children and citizen contacts.  It works in selected areas of the County, special events, playgrounds and ballparks.

Bike Patrols are useful for crime reduction and for accessing areas not normally accessible by patrol car such as wooded areas.  It is also useful in reducing crime in shopping areas.

The Bike Patrol falls under the Community Services Division.  If you have any questions regarding the Bike Patrol Unit, please contact Sgt. Steve Humphries at (757) 253-2481.
