Police - Internship Process
James City County Police Department participates in an internship program with local schools and colleges. Typically, internships will be offered to students seeking not more than 150 hours, unless special circumstances arise. If you are interested in an internship with the Department, you must complete the following steps:

| You must complete a James City County Police Department Employment Application. These can be obtained from the Law Enforcement Center (5087 John Tyler Highway), from James City County Human Resources Office (101-F Mounts Bay Road) or online. | |

| or dropped off at the LEC at 5087 John Tyler Highway, Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. | |
| School Letter | |
| Internships will only be granted to students enrolled in an internship class for credit. The school internship coordinator must write a letter of introduction that explains the program, how many hours will be required, and the available work schedule of the prospective intern. |
| Recommendation | |
Your application must include two letters of recommendation from a teacher or professor, an academic advisor or sponsor, and/or a current or former employer. Note: Application Review - Your application will not be reviewed until the school letter and letters of recommendation are received. Employment history and references will be checked. |
| Interview | |
| If selected, you will be invited to come in for an interview. During this interview, you will be asked about your goals and expectations of the internship. | |
| Acceptance | |
| You will be notified by telephone of your acceptance or non-acceptance to the program. At this time, a date will be set up for initial orientation. | |
| Orientation | |
| At the orientation, you will meet with your on-site supervisor and set up a work and task schedule. | |
| Internship Agreement | |
| You will be required to sign an agreement of understanding. Interns under 18 years of age will also be required to have their parents sign this agreement. |
