New Radar Trailer
Recently, the newly formed Police Department Traffic Unit took possession of a new Radar Trailer that is used for voluntary speed compliance.
This tool has been proven very effective in the past with an older Radar Trailer jointly owned with the Williamsburg Police Department. The Traffic Unit has used both trailers on several recent speed projects. A one-month project was just completed on Jamestown Road where a significant speeding problem was discovered. The new Radar Trailer
was used for several weeks prior to directed enforcement by patrol units. This tool gives the public a chance to observe their speed and voluntary comply with the posted speed limit. As a result, the department was able to reduce the speed problem on Jamestown Road as much as 70 percent in certain categories. The new Radar Trailer was recently marked with reflective graphics that are the same as the patrol units. The Traffic Unit is proud of the new equipment and will use it frequently through-out the County to remind the public to drive safe.
