Q. Why Should I Choose your Program?
A. James City County provided dependable, safe care and fun to the community for over 20 years.  We are state licensed and serve as a program model for other youth and childcare providers.

 

Q. Where are the Rec Connect Programs located and operated?
A. They are located at the Williamsburg/James City County Elementary and Middle schools.  They are operated by James City County government.

 

Q. If it is my first day attending the program, where so I bring my child?
A. Our program home base is located in the cafeteria of the assigned site.  You can meet the site supervisor there and sign in your child.

 

Q. When do I register for the Rec Connect Before and After school and/or Summer Camp Programs?
A. You can register annually starting in February for the upcoming Before and After School Program and the current year's summer camp program.  Your one time registration covers registration for both programs if you select them.  We accept registrations first come, first served by space availability per site.

 

Q. If I have registered for the program once, do I need to register again?
A. Yes.  You must register annually for the program.

 

Q. If I am registered and attending the Rec Connect Before and After School Program, do I have to register for the Holiday Break and Spring Break Programs?
A. Yes.  Registration for Holiday Break usually begins in November and in March for Spring Break.

 

Q. Who do I contact if I have questions or concerns about my Rec Connect Program?
A. The site supervisor of your assigned school.  Please see the parent handbook or click here for phone numbers.

 

Q. Who do I contact if I have questions or concerns about my payment or billing?
A. Parks and Recreation's Account Clerk, Dolores Durling at 259-5414.

 

Q. Who is taking care of my child?
A. We have a diverse staff with a variety skill sets.  Each site location has a site supervisor (minimum age 21 with a bachelor's degree in psychology, education, recreation, sociology or a related field and/or equivalent years of experience), assistant site supervisor and program leader staff.  The number of staff per site depends on the number of children attending per site.

 

Q. What are staff qualifications?
A. Staff, ranging in age from16-60, have been selected based on their educational background, experience and commitment to working with children.  In addition, staff is required to have criminal history checks, CPS registry checks, OSHA training and a minimum of 12 hours annual training in safety, child development, behavior management and programming.  Staff are also trained in CPR and first aid.  All staff participate in a required drug screening and TB test.

 

Q. What is your staff to child ratios?
A. 1 staff member to 18 children.

 

Q. What types of activities are available to the children?
A. Age appropriate games galore, homework assistance, fun fitness activities, creative crafts, outside play, interactive reading and team projects are just a few to name.

 

Q. When is the program closed for operation?
A. The program is closed on all observed holidays and for one week at the end of August.  We operate on school half days and teacher workdays.

 

Q. Does the program provide breakfast, lunch and snacks?
A. The program only provides snacks.  Parents are responsible for providing breakfast and lunch.

 

Q. What are my choices if I only want to attend 1-2 days to the Rec Connect Before and After School Program?
A. We recommend you buy a 10-visit coupon punch card.  It can be used anytime during the program until you use all your punches or it expires.

 

Q. Do I pay for the time my child does not attend?
A. You only pay for the weeks that you attend.  Payment is always due one week in advance of your attending week.

 

Q. Do I loose my program placement if my child goes on vacation or does not attend for various weeks?
A. No.

 

Q. Will my child be able to attend if I do not pay on time (Tuesday, 9 p.m. for the upcoming week)?
A. Yes if space is available.  However, your only payment options will be (1) pay by Friday, 10 a.m. with an additional $25 late fee or (2) purchase a coupon punch card if you pay after Friday, 10 a.m.
