Group 1 - Adults

2. When it comes to parks, programs and facilities – what does Parks & Recreation do well?

(22)- summer swim teams, make affordable at public pools and with neighborhood partnerships

(26)- 50 meter pool (state of the art facility) for state titles for swimming. Need earlier access to facility such as 4:30 a.m.

1. Have you ever used a James City County park or facility… such as going to the pool at the community center, visiting Kidsburg or playing on one of our ball fields?

100%

2. Are there enough activities for youth in James City County , especially on the weekends?

Need 50 meter pool for @ 600 competitive swimmers. JCC could host and boost economy for groups like USA Virginia (Eastern Sectional, Speedo Championship Junior Sectional)

3. If you answered “not enough” to question 2… and you could wish for any type time of entertainment you wanted, what would it be? (Youth were asked to rank their priorities. Number of votes appears first.) 

Programs

(11)- Summer Sampler/hands on activities such as Astronomy, Dance, Archaeology, Criminal justice, Forensics, Economics, Marine biology

(Financial- Nominal fee; subjects not offered in college; career exploration)

(10)- Resource Guide for teens to do Community Service such as Habitat for Humanity

(9)- Therapeutic Recreation programs

(7)- Habitat for Humanity (no age limits)

(7)- Mentor Program

(6)- Outdoor Activities such as Kayaking, Camping, Rock climbing and

5. What’s the best way to get information out to you (how do you find out about other upcoming events)?

  • Would like a monthly calendar of Activities distributed at schools
  • Visible bulletin boards
  • Word of mouth

Additional Comments

Environment – youth wanted to see more consideration given to vacated facilities being renovated rather than demolished or left vacant; fewer trees should be cut down to accommodate buildings; don’t want James City County to look like Richmond Road in the City; want regulations – policies and procedures – put into place to ensure the environment is protected.
