Waller Mill Dog Park Regulations

To provide a safe and well-maintained park for you and your dog to enjoy, the following rules have been established. The Waller Mill Dog Park is a joint venture between the City of Williamsburg and James City County. Annual membership is available for Williamsburg and James City County residents. It is our sincere hope that you and your four-legged friends enjoy the Dog Park in the beautiful surroundings of Waller Mill Park. If you have any questions regarding the Dog Park rules, please contact Waller Mill Park at 259-3778.

Use of the Dog Park shall be at your own risk.

    Before Entering the Dog Park:

Register your dog(s) at the Operations Building.

The following information must be provided:

    1. The name, age, address, telephone number, and email address of the owner of the dog.
    2. The name, age, address, telephone number, and email address of any person who does not own the dog, but has custody of the dog.
    3. The name, approximate age, and breed of the dog
    4. Dog license registration with the City or County of residence.
    5. Rabies certificate.

    1. Each dog allowed to enter the Dog Park must have a current dog license and a current rabies vaccination as well as any other vaccinations required by law.
    2. The annual registration fee for Williamsburg and James City County residents is $15.00 for the first dog, and $10.00 for each additional dog.  The annual nonresident registration fee is $50.00 for the first dog, and $25.00 for each additional dog.
    3. The daily use fee is $2.00 per dog and all owners must provide the required registration information.
    Upon Entering the Dog Park:

The Dog Park has two areas, one for smaller dogs weighing 30 pounds or less and an area for larger dogs. To ensure the safety of all the dogs in the park, dogs should be kept in the area that fits their weight category.

All dogs must be leashed while in Waller Mill Park except when inside the Dog Park fence.

The Dog Park gates must be kept closed.

No animals other than dogs are allowed in the Dog Park.

Aggressive, disruptive, sick, female dogs in heat, and puppies four months old and younger are not permitted in the Dog Park.

Only two dogs per handler are allowed. Dogs must be under the handler’s control at all times.

Dogs are the responsibility and liability of the owner (and the handler, if different than the owner).

If an injury occurs, handlers should exchange contact information before leaving the park.

A handler must be eighteen (18) years old, but may permit a person who is twelve (12) years or older to participate in the handling of the dog.

Children under the age of five (5) years are not allowed within the Dog Park fences at any time.

Choke, prong, pinch, and spike collars must be removed before a dog may run free in the Dog Park.

Smoking, food, cigarettes and tobacco products, glass containers, and trash are not allowed in the Dog Park. These items may cause harm to the dogs.

Do not feed the dogs in or near the Dog Park. This includes training treats.

Dogs are not to be left unattended while in any portion of Waller Mill Park, including the Dog Park.

Handlers are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs. Waste must be placed in bags provided by the Park and promptly disposed of in the provided containers. Failure to clean up will be cause for termination of further use of the Dog Park.

Anyone creating a disturbance or violating the Dog Park or general Waller Mill Park rules may be asked to leave Waller Mill Park and/or relinquish their Dog Park membership.  In the event of relinquishment of membership, there shall be no refund of any portion of the membership fee.

Park personnel are not responsible to mediate any disputes.  Some or all persons involved in a dispute may be directed to leave Waller Mill Park.  Further, the City Director of Parks and Recreation may in his/her sole discretion, either temporarily band person(s) involved in a dispute from either the Dog Park or the entirety of Waller Mill Park.  In either case no refund will be made of Dog Park Membership fees.
