Family Fun Fest

Chickahominy Riverfront Park, FREE
Bring the kids (and the neighbors, too) for a FUN-filled family day at our waterfront park! Family Fun Fest will offer your family a chance to embark on an exciting day of hands-on activities in the Messy Zone; carnival rides, a petting zoo, pony rides and more in the Laugh Out Loud Zone; a special Disability Awareness and JCC Fire Awareness areas in the Brighten You Up Zone, and Health and Wellness and educational activities in the Good For You Zone. Live family entertainment to include storytellers, dancers and music to keep your feet tapping and your heart pumping! Enjoy a picnic style lunch provided by our food vendors. National Hershey Track and Field Program
Date: Tuesday, May 20, 5:30 p.m.
Location: Jamestown High School, boys and girls ages 9-14 years
Events include the 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m ,800m, 1600m, standing long jump, softball throw and relays. Top finishers qualify to participate in the Eastern District Meet in June. Registration forms will be sent to the schools and available on the day of the event or click here for a copy. Registrants must have proof of age. |

Kids' All-American Fishing Derby

National Trails Day 2008

"Join Us on the Trail" is the theme for this year's National Trails Day. Come walk or bike the Chickahominy Riverfront Phase of the Virginia Capital Trail beginning at Chickahominy Riverfront Park. Get some exercise as you enjoy the fresh air and beautiful scenery. This self-paced event is family friendly and guaranteed to bring you greater appreciation of the Virginia Capital Trail. Choose the distance of your walk; refreshments will be available at the Chickahominy Riverfront Park shelter. |

Student Art Show
Dates: Monday-Friday, June 4 - July 17, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Location: James City County Government Center, Building E

James City County Fair
Dates: Thursday, June 19 - Saturday, June 21
Location: Chickahominy Riverfront Park, $5/car
Come and join the fun and excitement of the 31st Annual James City County Fair!
Thursday: Dancin' on the Midway - A night filled with music, dance and good old-fashion fun. Start your weekend early by joining us for dancing, double the rides of previous years, concessions, BINGO, 4-H hands on activities, pet contests, rotten sneakers contest, pony rides and more!
Friday: Carnival Night - Fill the night air with laughter! Enjoy double the rides, concessions, carnival games, petting zoo, pony rides, hands-on activities, tractor pulls, craft vendors, 4H activities, live entertainment and so much more!
Saturday: Family Fun Day - Take Friday night's excitement and double it, triple it or take it to the nth degree including pie and cake decorating and chocolate dessert contests; Home Depot workshops, the Gamer bus and more! Then add fireworks and BOOM, you have a great day at the fair!

11th Annual Park to Park Bicycle Tour
Dates: Saturday, July 12, 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Location: Upper County Park
This bicycle tour starts at Upper County Park with visits to Little Creek Reservoir Park, Chickahominy Riverfront Park and Freedom Park! Ride options of 15, 25 and 52 miles. The registration fee is $15 onsite OR $10 if you pre-register. Children ages 10 and younger are FREE, but must ride on a trailer bike, tandem or in a trailer. Registration fee includes refreshments at rest stops, admittance to Upper County Park pool, canoe rentals at Little Creek, highlighted maps, support vehicles to help out tired riders, plus LUNCH. 12th Annual Pedal the Parkway
Dates: Saturday, May 3, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.
The Colonial Parkway between Williamsburg and Jamestown will be closed to cars from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. BICYCLES ONLY! The event will take place rain or shine. Parking will be available off Newport Avenue in Williamsburg and at the Jamestown Beach Campsites lot. Families with young children or riders wishing to avoid hills should start at the Jamestown end. Rest stops will be available along the route. Free helmets for children, distributed by the Active Williamsburg Alliance and the Williamsburg Area Bicyclists, while they last! T-shirts will be available for purchase. |

CApital to Capital Century/Half Century Ride
Dates: Saturday, May 10, 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Location: Simultaneous starts at Richmond's Dorey Park and at Jamestown High School
Ride features consecutive loops on and off the Route 5 Scenic Byway known for its tree canopy, historic plantations, battlefields and pastoral scenery. $25 pre-registration fee includes home-style barbecue lunch in Charles City. Children's Bike Ride

Location: Jamestown High School
All children welcome with their parents. Ride from 1-12 miles on the Virginia Capital Trail with experienced bicyclists who'll promote safe biking skills. Meet at the Jamestown High School parking lot. Refreshments will be served after the ride. Free helmets for children while they last, courtesy of Active Williamsburg Alliance and the Williamsburg Area Bicyclists. |

Have you ever wondered how to increase your safety while riding your bicycle? Experienced riders from the local bike club will demonstrate the safe way to ride your bike on our roads and bike paths. A 5-mile ride will follow the demonstration. All ability levels are welcome. |
