2008 Household Chemical Collection Program
In May 1997, James City County began sponsoring household chemical collections as part of a regional program coordinated by Virginia Peninsula Public Service Authority. The collections are held at a special drop-off site located on Tewning Road. This program enables residents to safely dispose of household chemicals. In general, the types of chemicals included in this program are:
- Household Maintenance Products (oils, paints, latex paints, stains, wood sealers, thinners, solvents, adhesives, glues)
- Automotive Products (gasoline and other fuels, auto batteries, car waxes, oil and gasoline mixtures, transmission fluid, brake fluid, fuel additives)
- Lawn & Garden Products (Insecticides, weed killers, other pesticides, fertilizers, swimming pool chemicals)
- Household Cleaning Products (oven cleaners, drain cleaners, metal polishes, floor waxes)
- Miscellaneous Products (photo finishing supplies, chemistry sets, charcoal fluid, household batteries)
2008 Household Chemical Collection Schedule
Tewning Road (off Ironbound Road - James City Service Authority employee parking lot). Collections are held on the 2nd Saturday of every other month February through October from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The dates are:
April 12, June 14, August 9, and October 11
The household chemical collection events are open to RESIDENTS of James City County, Poquoson, Williamsburg, and York County only.
