The Commissioner of the Revenue Office, as a representative of James City County and the Commonwealth of Virginia, serves our community by:

 

General Information and Links

The Commissioner of the Revenue is the chief assessing officer of local government. The position of Commissioner is set forth in the Constitution of Virginia and is, therefore referred to as a Constitutional Office. The Commissioner is an elected official chosen directly by the citizens of James City County to serve a four-year term. Richard Bradshaw has been the Commissioner of the Revenue since January 1, 2000. This office serves the citizens of James City County by:

  1. Registering Motor Vehicles and Other Personal Property for Local Taxation.
  2. Assessing Personal Property Taxes.
  3. Administering and Assessing Local Business Taxes, Including Business License, Business Personal Property, Machinery and Tools, Prepared Food and Beverage, and Transient Occupancy.
  4. Assisting in the Filing of Virginia Individual Income Tax Returns.
  5. Administering - County Tax Relief Programs for the Elderly and Disabled.
  6. Administering County Land Use Taxation Program.
  7. Administers County Personal Property Tax Relief Programs
  8. Administering Public Service Corporation and Bank Franchise Taxes.
  9. Providing Statistical Information to Other County Offices Necessary for the Formulation of Budgetary Income Projections.
  10.  Exemption Form for non-profits seeking to exempt personal property.
