Special Needs

The Special Needs List is a list of County citizens who may need assistance at the time of a disaster. Most will have medical conditions that will require assistance from others. This assistance may involve providing transportation to a shelter or assistance after they arrive. Some isolated citizens may also need to be alerted that a disaster is pending and they need to seek safety.

Any citizen can be added to our list.  It is updated annually, however new names are entered as they are received. To be added to the list or to list a loved one, friend, or neighbor, please contact James City County Department of Social Services at 259-3100, or dss@james-city.va.us

We will need the name, address, phone number, medical condition, if transportation is needed to the shelter, and if not, who will provide it for you.  There is a brief Special needs application that can be completed and either e-mailed to the above address, faxed to 259-3188 or mailed to James City County Social Services, 5249 Olde Towne Road, Williamsburg, VA  23188.  We will then gladly enter your name into our system.

If you have questions, pleace contact JCC DSS, 259-3100 or dss@james-city.va.us.
