Emergency Services
The Office of Emergency Services is responsible for disaster planning and coordination of all response and management of natural or manmade emergencies. This Division of the Fire Department maintains all emergency operating plans and oversees the Emergency Operating Center. Examples of plans maintained include the County General Emergency Operating Plan, the Surry Nuclear Power Station Radiological Emergency Response Plan, and all records and materials related to SARA Title III hazardous materials reporting. The Fire Chief serves as Coordinator of Emergency Services and is supported by full- and part-time staff plus volunteers during an event.
Surry Siren Test Schedule
The sirens are tested quarterly (March, June, September, and December) on the second Wednesday at 11:10 a.m. This is one sounding lasting three minutes. In a real emergency, there would be four separate soundings of three minutes each separated by one minute of silence. This is also listed on the Calendars for JCC under the JCC Main Calendar and the Emergency Services Calendar.
